Six Flags Dicovery Kingdom PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Monday, July 19 2010 22:30

Last week I had a change to visit Discovery Kingdom. We had so much fun there. I was able to see a dolphin show, a killer whale show and I got to ride some amazing rides. Also, a quick update on the job situation. I found a job delivering pizzas at Domino's here in Davis. Obviously not my dream job but right now it's better than nothing.

For your enjoyment I've posted a quick video I made of my girlfriend and I asking a dolphin expert at Discovery Kingdom few important questions.

Happy Easter!!! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Monday, April 05 2010 16:41

Happy Easter to you all! A day late I know, but better late than never. Easter was pretty uneventful, but I did have a nice steak dinner. Steak, salad, and Mac and Cheese. It’s Kayla's favorite meal. She had to work so I figured I'd make her something she liked that night. So Easter came and went. As you all know the apple ipad came out the day before. I also got the chance to email apple back. Just waiting on them to answer now that the ipad is officially out. Other than that there’s not much is going on. Still looking for a job, (The job situation here in California sucks!)

Friday, March 26 2010 21:02

Just got back from Kayla's Surprise diner a few minutes ago. It was great fun! Brought her to cheesecake factory and surprised her with diner with 9 of her really close friends. All in all it was a fun night. Unfortunately no pictures for you. I am really tired though so I think I'm going to head to bed.

Oh, and update on the I-pad project I received this email from Apple Public Relations:

James,

Thank you for your interest in reviewing iPad!
iPad launches on April 3, 2010. We will get back to you once the product is available, but have made a note of your review request.

Thank you!

Johns Hopkins Presentation in San Francisco PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Friday, March 26 2010 14:46

We left for San Francisco on Sunday and I had a blast! My girlfriend was going there for a nursing presentation that was being put on by Johns Hopkins at the JW Marriot. So, we took the hour Journey into San Francisco and went to her presentation. It was very informative for her and I'm glad she got the chance to go. I also got a chance to take a few pictures from the 26th floor of the Marriot. The view was AMAZING! I'll post them at the bottom along with other pictures of the trip.

Afer we got back from her presentation we stopped by her Cousin's house in SF. They have a beautiful house and two adorable babies (Twins, one boy and one girl). Since Kayla had opened that morning and neither Kayla or I were brave enough to have me drive in San Francisco we just spent the night there. We had taco's for diner, and then just went to sleep.

In the morning we said our goodbyes to her cousin and the twins and were on our way to be tourists in San Francisco. We cheked out Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world (seen below).

 Lombard Street

We also got to hang out at Fisherman's Wharf. There's so much to do there and this took up most of our time. We Saw Ghirradelli's, Pier 39, althouth most of the Sea Lions are gone now. and so many cool stores and alcatraz and the golden gate bridge. We originally wanted to take a tour of Alcatraz but aparently you have to book in advance and we didn't get that done, I also wanted to see Golden Gate Park and we weren't able to get there either. So I guess this gives us an excuse to go back!!! :)

We also went to rainforest Cafe and ate there and I got them to sing to Kayla since it was her birthday soon. She told me she would kill me if I ever did that, but I'm still standing so I guess she was bluffing. :)

Kayla's Surprise

Anyway, today is her Birthday so I got a bunch of her friends togather to have Diner with her at Cheesecake Facotry in Sacramento. Now I just have to get her out of bed...

In and Out PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, March 21 2010 00:40

So today I tried a fast food restaurant called in and out. I had never heard of these before when I lived in Nebraska and here in California they are all over the place. I tried it and the food was okay, but the fries were horrible. Other than that the only other thing that happened today was emailing the scammer that was trying to cheat me out of money. Tonight my girlfriend and I got packed for a trip to San Francisco. She is going down there for a presentation to find out more about John Hopkins. We're also hopefully going to make it to visit Fisherman's Wharf and possibly Alcatraz. We're going to stay at her cousins house. It should be great fun! Since we won't be back till probably late Monday night that means I won't be writing for a couple days. I'll post as soon as I can with details about the trip, and hopefully pictures!

More emails... PDF Print E-mail

Less than half an hour after I sent the last message I received this from them...

Sedo is a good broker and we can use it for transfer/transaction.
Unfortunately , Sedo is not acceptable as an appraiser because your names
are listed with them and they are not independent. They are interested in
earning 10% commission on every sale.  I need appraisals from a company
which is not interested in selling your domains.

I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals. So I
cannot accept appraisal from each and every site. I will only accept
appraisals from independent appraisal companies I know and trust.

and I sent this reply back...

Sedo, is without a doubt a trusted and well known company. An apraisal from them should not be rejected under any circumstance, or I would be happy to obtain an apraisal through another company of my choosing. Again you are more than willing to bid on this domain on ebay. Thanks again for you interest.
Sincerely,
James L. Curtis

Emails of a scammer... PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Saturday, March 20 2010 14:40

Hello, I previously posted about a scammer trying to get me to send them some money. I have taken the liberty of posting these emails for the entertainment of others and also to warn others of this possible scam. You can read the emails below, they are in chronological order (the first email being at the top, and the later emails being at the bottom) The first email is from them, and it is alternating from that point on (e.g. them, me, them, me). Enjoy!

I have never sold a domain name before so I am not entirely sure how much to price it at. I guess I would start by asking how much is this domain worth to you? Give me a price you think is fair and we can go from there.

Sincerely,
James Curtis

James,

I see. You have never sold before etc.

Can you accept 5,000 USD?

Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name?

Domain without content is ok with me. Web site is not necessary.

Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? I mean domain appraisals. Without valuation we cannot be sure in the sale price. It's very important for me in terms of reselling too. But we must engage a valuation company with REAL manual service. So I will only accept valuations from independent sources I and my partners trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies.

Please check this blog with suggestions from other sellers and buyers:
If, for example, the valuation comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly.  It will be fair. I also hope you can give me 12% - 15% discount.

After you send me the valuation via email (usually it takes 1-2 days to obtain it) we'll continue our negotiations.

What is your preferred payment method:  Escrow.com, International wire transfer, PayPal.com or something else?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply.

At this point I was suspicious so I looked up their company more and sent this email....

Yes,

I'd be happy to accept $5,000 it would be just the domain name. The only method I would accept is a cashiers check.
If you are still interested in moving forward let me know.

Sincerely,
James Curtis

It's a standard practice to show independent valuation to buyers/resellers.
Nobody will do business without it. I'm a businessman and have no intention
of changing rules which help both parties to avoid additional risks.

Of course, investors never take into account auto-generated valuations. So
manual valuation is a "must" too.

I read the following information about appraisals at:
http://www.domainexplorer.org/Archive/86132905.htm

Without the independent valuation from a trusted source we don't spend a
penny. This is our financial policy. So our offer is just a rought estimate.
If the appraisal comes higher we are ready to offer a bit more. If it comes
lower we will discuss the price with you again.

Thank you for understanding. I'm looking forward to do business with you.

Since you initially contacted me I took the liberty of looking up your company and exactly what you do. From what I have read it seems you solicit owners of domains (often people who have listed things through http://www.sedo.com) and try to get them to pay for an over priced evaluation for a domain. And then after you "Evaluate" this domain name (and get any money you can from your unsuspecting users) you cease contact and are nowhere to be found. If you want I am still more than happy to accept the original $5,000 offer via a cashiers check. However, your company no longer has any credibility with me so I cannot in good faith complete any other transactions with yourself or any company that you are affiliated with apart from a final sale of the domain name http://www.mystudentfiles.com. Or if you would prefer you can visit my ebay page where I am selling this domain name (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130376199496&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT) Here you will have the opportunity to bid on this domain as does everybody else. Please let me know if you will accept your initial $5,000 offer. If not then feel free to bid on the product on ebay.

It should also be noted that I am taking the liberty of informing the better business bureau of your malicious practices. Thank you and have a good day!

Sincerely,

James L. Curtis

Scam PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Saturday, March 20 2010 13:58

The other day I was contacted about an "Amazing opportunity" to sell my domain name http://www.mystudentfiles.com. I sent them an email back and told them that I have never sold a domain before and wasn't sure how to price them. Less then 2 hours later I get a reply offering $5,000 dollars to buy the domain from me. I recently moved to California and am currently out of a job (I just do my websites and a few things on the side while I'm looking for a job) so this prospect excited me a great deal. After the excitement came the suspicion! I started looking into the company and apparently this company makes a habbit of offering to buy domains but then insisting that you get it "Appraised" through a specific company, mind you they won't let you pick the company yourself. They make it sound like you have to get it appraised through them or they will not give you the offer at all. Of course this is bogus. I'll reply in a second post with the emails so far and keep you up to date. I'm gonna keep stringing him along and see what happens. It should be entertaining! On a side note, I have a new idea for a website that require an apple ipad, however since I don't currently have the cash for an ipad I am going to sit down and write apple a letter and see if they like my idea. I'll see if I can get a free ipad to own (or at least to use). I'll keep you posted!
